New FO: Nello House Socks
I am an absolute sucker for sock patterns. I don’t make socks that often, but I can’t help myself from buying gorgeous sock patterns when ever they come across my feed. Since my last post, I wasn’t planning on casting on anything new until I finished up my Wave Break Sweater test knit, but I lost that game immediately when I saw the pattern for Tif Neilan’s Nello House Socks (ravelry link). I instantly bought and cast these on using scrap yarn (Woolen Boon) from another sweater that I made earlier this year.
I absolutely love Tif’s patterns and I couldn’t resist this comfy and quick knit. It’s made using fingering weight yarn held double, so it’s a really fast pattern to finish. I cast-on the project on December 9 and was finished by Dec 13, but really you could easily finish this project over a weekend. I finally added my tassels last night and took the finished object pictures. I can’t wait to wear these all winter! I really love the fit of the Herringbone stitch cuff on these, I was a little concerned it would be tight but the fit is actually perfect.
All of Tif’s sock patterns are house sock style and can be made very quickly using multiple strands of yarn held together and larger needle sizes. This makes for great gift knitting or even using up scraps from your other projects (I STILL have leftover yarn after making these). These are perfect for wearing around the house, wearing with slippers, or even wearing with slightly oversized boots (like Doc Martens).
I was very excited to use my new Hive Sock Blockers from Traveling Yarn (product link). I haven’t actually made (and finished) socks for myself in years, so I’m excited to get my sock mojo going again. I really want 2021 to be all about socks for me. Socks and Spinning!
That reminds me, I picked up my brand new spinning wheel the other night! I bought an unfinished wheel so I’m currently going through the finishing process. I am making a video about the process to post on YouTube and will also share all the details in it’s own post. My goal by the end of next year is to make a pair of handspun socks.
